Built in 2006, The Grand Lodge serves as the community center for TEXANA Trails & Lodge. The two-story structure sits prominently at the highest point of the hilltop property, capturing an expansive view of the surrounding rolling, wooded and pastoral countryside, and signaling a welcome embrace as guests drive in the front gate seeking a unique refuge or celebration. The Grand Lodge offers the largest indoor space for events on the property with a commercial kitchen, La Gran Cocina, as well as lodging.

Lennie Brown, owner, designed the facility and provided hands-on assistance to the building contractor during fourteen months of construction. Inspired by “Parkitecture”, well-loved, U.S. National Park rustic design of the Roosevelt Era, the edifice marries with the landscape: (10) steeply gabled roofs, casement windows, and La Veranda wrap-around covered porch, by way of rustic siding from locally harvested, native Eastern Redcedar, and pier bases from sandstone quarried on site.

The Grand Lodge includes spacious rooms, many with fully vaulted ceilings over ten feet in height. Heavily textured walls echo the plastered stonework in the original Historic Stonehouse nearby, capturing natural light, framing view of the landscape, and providing a modest backdrop for various pieces of fine art, artifacts and Spanish Hacienda styled décor. Indoors, the same rustic Redcedar used for siding is planed smooth and used as trim throughout the building, including the staircase and railing. Pine doors with bronzed hardware, iron light fixtures, handmade Talevera porcelain sinks and light switch plates remind guests of the continuing connection between Texas and her Spanish, Mexican, and Anglo colonial heritage.

Staircase leads to guest room lodging located on the second floor, together with a large bathroom with shower. Guests also have use of the powder room on the first floor, conveniently located adjacent to the entry, near the front door.
